The recent release of Mozilla’s web browser,
Firefox 6, doesn’t quite hit the hype level that the iPhone 5 rumor mill
gets, but was still worthy of a review. Much of the updates that came
out of Firefox 6 are minor, which isn’t surprising since Firefox 5 was
released only two months before this current release and Firefox 4 was
put out just a few months before Firefox 5.
While the enhancements in Firefox 6 won’t rock your body (a few visual
touchups, some backend enhancements, and a lot of bug fixing) we wanted
to highlight some of the overall features the Firefox browser brings to
the table.
The Awesome Bar: How many times have you stumbled onto a website only to
not remember the URL later on when you closed it? With Awesome Bar, you
simply have to type in keywords and Firefox will bring up browsing
history, bookmarked sites, and open tabs, all as suggestions for
potential matches. The tool then learns your search patterns to give you
better results every time you type in a keyword. Additionally, Firefox
has enhanced privacy settings to further control the autocomplete
function.
Intuitive Tabs: Simplicity is better when it comes to the organizing
your web browsing habits online. Firefox continues to enhance several
new features to make your browsing experience a lot easier. The first
thing you notice is the ability to store tabs permanently in your
browser, right above the URL space. Incase you like to pop around to
different websites frequently, Mozilla has a built in feature to help
there, too. The Switch-to-Tab will automatically revert you back to a
website if you already have it loaded on another tab, instead of opening
a duplicate. This will especially come in handy on site where you are
filling out information or email sites.
I’ll admit it, at least a few times a week I will get so lost in the
amount of tabs I have open at work, I will end up spending a minute or
two just finding the right link again. Firefox feels your pain and looks
to alleviate it with Panorama. You can drag and drop tabs into groups
that make sense to you. All you have to do is right click on the tab and
move it into a group. Alternatively, you can customize your navigation
toolbar with the Tab Groups Icon.
Have you ever tried to minimize a window and accidentally closed it?
Firefox has a Recently Close Tabs that lets you scroll through URLs that
you want to revisit.
Simplifying Search: There are a few features that together will create a
much more enjoyable web browsing experience. Firefox offers several
search engine add-ons (see below) to customize your browsing experience.
What goes around, comes around on the off chance that your browser
crashes, Mozilla has created an easy Session Restore feature that will
bring you right back to where you were, even mid sentence in a chat box.
Not the best speller? Firefox has a built-in spell checker designed
specifically for Web pages. And once you correctly get a URL into the
search bar, use the One-Click Bookmarking tool (hit the star).
Security is Key: Purchasing items online is easier than ever but
trusting every site with your credit card information is a tough one to
swallow. But if you use the Instant Web Site ID tool, you can see which
websites are what they claim, and avoid potential cyber theft. In the
instance to your right with PayPal—green means go.
In addition to Instant Web Site ID, Firefox looks to provide
anti-phishing, anti-virus integration, and private browsing sessions.
We will be releasing a completely new and
much more powerful Program called SuperCare5 in mid 2012. We have been
developing the new program over the past year. SuperCare5 is written in
C# and as a Microsoft partner the program will link and run Word and
Excel from within Supercare5. Multi screen viewing at the same time. New
business rules are applied throughout the new program and with a fully
integrated payroll system option. The new program will also have a
integrated Mobile Messaging system. We will be giving more information
in the coming months. SuperCare3 is written in Pascal and it is not
fully compatible with many of the new enhancements’ in Windows7 and
beyond. SuperCare5 will enhance all current and future operating
systems.
We are also updating our our SQL Database Server to be .NET compatable.
